Danville School has just been awarded a $317,000 federal grant from the Department of Justice’s COPS Office as part of its School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP). Only two other Vermont schools have ever received this funding since the program launched in 2018.

This grant will fund major safety infrastructure upgrades at Danville’s PreK–12 campus, including:

·  A new emergency communication system,

·  Real-time surveillance technology, and

·  Always-locked interior classroom door mechanisms.

These upgrades were identified as critical needs in a recent school safety assessment. With local partnerships (including Vermont State Police and Washington County Mental Health Services) and a community-centered approach, Danville is providing thought leadership and modeling ways that Vermont’s rural schools can secure and implement meaningful, trauma-informed safety improvements.
